Hey anyone who has the ability to record gameplay I was wondering what your setup was. Also what to total cost to get said setup running. I've been wanting to do that for sometime now but most things I find on the net are rather vague.

Yeah... Cove and I both have the Recording setups.
I am pretty sure we use the same box at the moment...
Hauppauge 1212 if memory serves.
For the most part, Set my 360 to a lower resolution of 720P, only because the PVR can't record at 1080p... its not horrible...
So far, I have not heard of any games that are native 1080p, aside from possibly God of War 3, and possibly Gran Turismo 5 when it finally releases.
all in all, it takes trial and error, but if you need tips on it, just ask Cove or Myself... Possibly Cove... since it seems to be his new Favorite thing.

awesome, thanks. Looks like i'll be getting one of them soon. Have to try to get the wife to pick it up for me for christmas hopefully.
Also I'll have to hook the xbox up with component cables as well right?
Also will this be able to record headset conversations as well if needed?
Thanks again.

One thing however about that PVR is the format it records in. It's all AVCHD and it's a bitch to edit, not many editer programs can handle it properly.

to My knowledge, there is no way to record your own voice without a wiring modification, but you can set your 360 to play voices through the speakers... but usually they are too low to hear over gunfire and what not. as for editing, I have never even tried to edit a video yet, of any sort, any time you see a video of mine, and it has sound effects AND music, I did it by streaming music from my PC into my 360, and picked the song ahead of time to play. for YouTube purposes, I set the resolution to 720p and use the stereo sound option instead of optical surround... I still use the optical for my output though... just not for recording. It is a great unit for entry level stuff, and the software included is extremely basic, but it gets the job done... video editing can become a project all in its own... a simple 10 minute clip, takes anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour and a half just to upload to YouTube... processing takes about the same amount of time, just to be able to watch it in the 240p format... each format available then takes another hour to two hours... but you are free to use your computer, because this is taking place on YouTube, and requires no input. If you want to edit, the software is not cheap either... but If you can do all the editing before you actually record, or while you record it, you will save some quality, and some time. check my YouTube and Coves, and you will get an idea of what you can slap together... on my page... and Cove might need to point out any that have post production on his. You may want to update your upload times now. Looks like the YTube is letting us upload vids 15mins in length now. ;D

Great thanks for the help. Looks like I may be picking this up in a month or so.
Also, If I were to stream my feed what would it look like? Also what types of mic input would be needed? And is that one box capable of achieving that?

never thought about streaming... I imagine that you can, but you need another software...
as for mic... you might need to record from one 360 while on a different one and logged into both accounts, and using private chat on the one that is not playing the game... to have all peoples voices recorded... other than that I am not sure if you have 2 accounts signed in, if they can both in chat, on 1 360.
but you can guess it took me a while to even think that up... because I was going to try to do voice overs for reviews and tip and tricks in games.

You can stream to sites on the net. You'll need some capture software and Flash media encoder and you'll be good to go. I just gave it a try this morning and you can see what it looks like here justin.tv/apexcove/b/267569543 no sound ATM thats still not working right.

So after spending $200 on the box. What's the rest of the cost to be able to stream as well? Just wondering on what the total cost will be.

So I got my hauppauge so far it's pretty cool. Is there any good free or relatively cheap video editing software that doesn't leave a giant banner in the middle of the entire video?
