I was wondering if anyone has any insight into a good set of gaming headphone. I've been looking at Turtle Beaches but would like others opinions and have some questions.
1st issue is connection. How exactly do they connect to the 360/PS3/PC/whatever? I see most have optical in/outs so I'm assuming it just plug the receiver in and good to go?
2nd is how good are they for no gaming? Like if I want to watch a movie or listen to music.

I have a pair of Turtle Beach X11's. They work great for everything. You can get them to work for PS3 as well but you need to buy an audio card attachment for it as well. Though out of the box they work great for PC and 360 gaming. Cost around $59.99.
For turtle Beach the X series are more for 360 and PC while the P series are PS3 and PC. Just like I said you can get them to work for PS3 just will cost around $40 I believe.
The X11's are simulated surround sound and you can adjust the game and chat volumes separately on the headset itself.

The PX21's work just fine for the 360.
Anyways I have the X11's, PX21's and the X41's.
For your question about connections Sokar, it depends on the model you pick. If you go with a wired stereo set they just use the old RED/WHITE Analog RCA jacks. Not really that bad of a deal as you can hook them up to your TV and not have to worry about moving cables around for different systems. The Multi channel units like the X41's and the PX5's use the optical input. However they only have one optical input and one output, this means if you move from your 360 to your PS3 you'll have to unplug one system for the other, as only one can be hooked up at a time.
Also something I'd recommend is taking a good look the the TB website. Most models have extra add-ons that you can order, such as a for my X41's I can order an adapter for a mic hookup to my PS3. Plus they have all the info you'll need about connecting the headphones to your systems.
As far as how good they are for movies and such, well they work pretty good for me. I use them mostly for when I'm gaming but once and a while I use them for the odd movie and such.
If you do go with a set of wireless headphones I strongly recommend you get some rechargeable batteries. The wireless sets eat them AAA's up pretty fast. So make sure you factor them into your final purchase price, if you don't already have some.

I actually already ordered the TB PX5's and they should be here either today or tomorrow.
I really didnt want a wired system since I already have a set of decent Sony headphone from a few years back so going with wireless was a must.
From what i read the PX5s were a great improvement over the X41 and any cracks or pops in sound that seemed prominent in the X41s is minimal if not nonexistent in the PX5. Plus there are custom presets that sounded pretty cool.
Also it allows you to link to bluetooth devices so theres no need for extra stuff to hook up to the ps3 . So you can be playing a game and get a call on your phone and just answer it right from the headset with out missing a beat or stream Pandora from your phone or whatnot.
As for only 1 optical in/out I have a switch that i use so it should be a non issue.
I was kind of disappointed in the whole needs batteries thing since when you spend $250+ for a headset you expect it to have a rechargeable pack with it. Oh well, hopefully TB releases something along the lines later but until they ill get a set of rechargeable at Staples in the the next day or so.
Ill try and do a review once I get them and put them through there paces.
